Bio
Julius Nam - I’m an assistant professor of religion at Loma Linda University School of Religion, specializing in Adventist studies and historical theology. I currently teach such courses as “Adventist Beliefs & Life,” “Christian Theology and Popular Culture,” “Diversity and the Christian Health Professional,” “Loma Linda Perspectives,” “Spirituality and the Christian Health Professional,” and “World Religions.” Prior to my move to Loma Linda in summer 2006, I taught religion at Pacific Union College for three years. Before responding to the call to teach, I served as a pastor in Seventh-day Adventist churches in Korea, Michigan and southern California. My pastoral experience ranges from working class urban to public and Adventist college campuses to suburban youth and young adults to postmodern cell church plant settings. In 2001-2005 he served as the editor of the Compass, an English-language monthly magazine for youth and young adults in North American Korean Adventism. All my degrees (BA, MA, PhD) are from Andrews University in the field of religion. My dissertation, written under George Knight’s direction, is entitled “Reactions to Seventh-day Adventist Evangelical Conferences and Questions on Doctrine, 1955-1971.” I am a commissioned minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
